The Borough at Carlton Landing
History tells us how long massive masonry lasts, and ‘The Borough’ Pocket Neighborhood is the realization of the most durable (and provable) building model being adapted to scale. Our micro-village is composed of eight small cottages ranging from 800 to 1400 square feet. The buildings are closely arranged within a third of an acre, each with a timber framed front porch that’s connected to the surrounding community by an intimate winding, 21” wide, brick foot path—a beautiful expression of human scale.
Leading up to our work with The Borough, there have been five separate research and development projects. With each of these Single Family Residential builds, we moved carefully and gained significant ground discovering better ways for inte- grating modern construction advancements with load bearing masonry. Since that time apprentices have graduated and gone out on their own, and we are seeing good gains in the number of mass wall buildings being produced. In the last two years, 16 other projects (21 in all) are now underway or completed.
